What’s a pop star do with clothing and costumes she can no longer wear? Goodwill? Salvation Army? Sheryl Crow sends hers home to Kennett where they wind up in a tiny room on the second floor of what was once the Cotton Exchange Bank. It’s now “The Bank,” an antique shop run by Mary Jo Byrd. She sells Ms. Crow’s duds and the proceeds go to the Delta Children’s Home. I did make a purchase and will post on that later.

Very fast thumb typing
Because I don’t own a Blackberry or “smart phone,” I have not done any “texting” and have no thumb typing skills (I’m not even sure it’s called that). But many people are very adept at this, including Learfield’s own Tyne Morgan. Tyne is majoring in ag journalism at the University of Missouri and working part-time for one of our networks.
This little clip does not do justice to her amazing skill. She was keying –with one thumb– as fast as many people type with all ten fingers. And she doesn’t have to look at the keys. This might be more useful than the ability to make yourself invisible.
Thirty years of election coverage
The first election covered by The Missourinet (a network owned by the company I work for) was in 1976. News Director Bob Priddy orchestrated that first election night and every one since. Prior to The Missourinet, radio stations throughout the state focused on local races and relied on the wire services for news and numbers from throughout the state.
The Missourinet brought the sounds of election night from the state capitol and campaign headquarters throughout Missouri to the hometown audiences of our affiliates.
The technology has changed… and is changing… but insight and understanding Missourinet reporters bring to their election night coverage remains the focus of their reporting. Bob reflects on the past 30 years in this 10 minute video.
My Wilderness Adventure
Following my brief stint on The Tree House ground crew, Henry took me on a mini-tour of the Prairie Garden Trust. I think it’s hundreds of acres and we saw some small fraction of that during the hour we spent in Henry’s little four-wheeler. I did this in iMovie and have come to the conclusion it will do everything I’m likely to want or need to do. I haven’t given up on Final Cut Express but it’s obviously more app than I need. (Alas, more shelfware). As for this little ride-around video…it’s quick-and-dirty and doesn’t begin to capture the beauty of the Prairie Garden Trust.

Newsroom renovation
They’ve been remodeling our (Jefferson City) offices and studios for well over a year and the latest (and last) area to get a make-over is the newsroom.
After stumbling around on the MacBook for a night or two, I broke down and pooped this out with Windows Movie Maker. Shot it on my little Casio.

New Learfield Sports Ops Center
I’ve posted a few times about the year-long renovation project that’s been underway where I work. Big push to have the new Sports Operations Center ready by the first football weekend (September 3, 2005) and they made it.
I stopped by with my camcorder. Once they get this thing fully tweaked, they’ll bring in a professional and really capture just how nice this facility is. Until then, here’s a little taste (6 min, 14 meg, wmv). If you have any trouble watching this, drop me a line.
Learfield Sports Operations
Our company has the broadcast rights (football and basketball) for some of the top colleges in the country and most of the production happens here in Jefferson City, Missouri. A major expansion of our sports operations and engineering facilities is underway and I asked Chief Engineer Charlie Peters to give me a tour this week.
Dancing Santa
One of the local supermarkets installed a mechanical Santa a week or so back. Push the little button between his feet and he sings and dances.
