We have been able to confirm Sheryl Crow and Lance Armstrong were in Kennett, Missouri for Thanksgiving and while I can’t confirm the Wal-Mart siting, we’re told SC and LA lunched at Bill’s Bar-B-Que. Lance also found time for a little bike tour of northeast Arkansas (Kennett to Rector to Piggott to Kennett).

Stalking Sheryl Crow
On Monday Sheryl Crow gave testimony in a case against Ambrose Kappos, 38, a one-time Navy diver charged with stalking the singer during a 16-month period. At one point in Kappos’ nearly two-hour testimony, Assistant District Attorney Christopher Hill asked him if he is a “fan” of the singer. “I don’t think that’s a very good term,” Kappos replied. “Maybe … spiritual twin. … Maybe I’m crazy and delusional. Maybe they need to lock me up.” Uh, yeah. Maybe.
Crow for Harkin
Iowa Senator Tom Harkin’s annual steak fry featured Sheryl Crow and comedian Tom Arnold. Crow performed for over half an hour, playing hits like “A Change Will Do You Good.” Between songs, Crow told the crowd she “feels like four more years of Bush is dangerous.” [Audio of performance 47 min]
Sheryl Crow to speak at Chamber event
From the Kennett Chamber of Commerce website: “Nine-time Grammy award winner Sheryl Crow will return home to serve as the keynote speaker at the 58th Annual Kennett Chamber of Commerce Banquet. The banquet will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 12th, at the American Legion Building in Kennett. Tickets for the event are $25 per person for Chamber members and $35 per person for non-Chamber members. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Chamber office at 573-888-5828. The deadline to purchase tickets is March 15th. The meal will be prepared by Simply Delicious Catering Service.” Can that possibly be a coincidence?
Christmas in Kennett
We’re blogging this Christmas Eve from Terry and Nancy’s home in Kennett. Everyone but Ripley and I are packed in at the First Presbyterian Church for the annual choral extravaganza.
A few minutes ago I had some delicious chicken salad that Nancy made. She said it was quite likely that Lance Armstrong enjoyed some of this very same chicken salad earlier today. He and Sheryl Crow were in for an early Christmas and Nancy sent over some sandwiches. We are but two ships, knoshing in the night.
Tour de Kennett
“The new man in Sheryl Crow’s life is Tour de France champ Lance Armstrong, 32. The pair have been quietly seeing each other for the past few weeks, and sources say the rocker, 41, is smitten.”
I’d been hearing/reading that for a few weeks but didn’t think much about until getting some on-the-ground confirmation this week in Kennett. My sources tell me Lance spent Thanksgiving with Sheryl and her family in Kennett. Okay, that’s surreal enough. But the five time Tour de France winner is reported to have gone cycling while in town. Don’t know the full route but he apparently biked down HW 25 to Senath. I just don’t have the words to express how bizarre that strikes me.
Honky Tonk Woman
Last night the Rolling Stones did a live HBO concert from Madison Square Garden. About half way through the two hour show they launched into Honky Tonk Women and out struts Sheryl Crow looking like ten million bucks. (Watch on YouTube)

It’s always difficult to tell if Jagger and Richards are leering but they both seemed delighted to have Crow join them and Mick couldn’t keep his hands off her. Crow –the only “special guest” to appear– was just a baby (one or two) when the Stones hit the charts in the U.S. but there she was, on stage in Madison Square Garden, before a world-wide TV audience. I kept asking myself, “What’s bigger than this? What’s ‘up’ from here?” The concert will be rebroadcast at 8 p.m., Monday on HBO2 and 9 p.m., Thursday on HBO.
A blank and flat canvas
“It’s no secret that Kennett is Sheryl’s home town. In all my previous visits I had stared in wonder at the place and wondered how a personality like Sheryl could come from somewhere that is essentially a blank (and flat) canvas.”
From the September 12, 2002 entry in Chris Hudson’s Tour Diary. Not quite sure who Chris Hudson is but he (she?) made the trip to Kennett when Sheryl Crow went home to recognize the efforts of some local first graders who won a contest with their book about September 11.
Couldn’t find any bio on Hundson, so I don’t know if he’s part of Sheryl’s band, her web guy or just someone that travels with her. But it was interesting to get his take on the old home town. I’m guessing that –like Sheryl– he rubs elbows with the glitterati. Unlike her, he ain’t from Kennett and it’s a long way from L.A. and N.Y. to Kennett, MO.
