My sources tell me that another long-time PC guy is very close to getting a Mac. If/when this happens, it will be the fourth person in my little world to step off the cliff. I’ve stayed in a few nice hotels so this is not the first time I’ve seen hotel towels folded and arranged in a pleasing manner. But someone in Guest Services here at the Country Inn and Suites (Knoxville) is the Michelangelo of towel folders. I kept using the same towel and wash cloth because I didn’t want to ruin this arrangement. (I did remove one hand cloth before taking this shot)
Then I started wondering how this works from a practical standpoint. Is there just one person who knows how to do this? And he/she races from room to room every day? Or do they require all new hires to learn how to do this? Six weeks of Advanced Towel Sculpture before you move on to Short-Sheeting the Bed?
I’m betting someone on the staff once worked at the Bellagio and was doing rooms one day and decided to have some fun. A supervisor spotted what she had done, called all the other maids in and announced, “Alright ladies… from now on, this is how we fold the towels.”
Longtime pal Randy Evans shares the delightful image above. It is the handiwork of one of the talented photographers at The Des Moines Register (where Randy toils as Assistant Managing Editor). Jerry Perkins, father of Learfield’s John Perkins, is George Washington; Randy is in Abe Lincoln’s spot and Thomas and Teddy are a couple of other Register ragamuffins. This puts my sad little effort to shame.

My friend (and your pet’s “best” friend) Everett, somehow manages to fit scouting into his busy life. I stole the image above from his blog and direct you there for some context. But this photo just spoke to me on some Monty Python level.
I’m fortunate to have many photos from the early days of KBOA (Kennett, MO). This one of John Mays, cueing a record in the control room, was taken by Johnny Mack Reeder or Bob Miles. Probably in the early 50’s.
You can see into Studio B which served a number of purposes over the years. Live newscasts and commercials orginated from Studio B. Later it house a large “disc cutter” used for recording spots.

Back in May, I posted on Jeff McVey and his wife (Deborah) who I live in a martial arts academy in a small village in the mountains outside of Yantai, China… studying Kung Fu from the Shaolin Monks who teach there. (I shit you not)
“I had my first kickboxing match this week. I think I did pretty well. They weren’t actually keeping points, but I controlled the fight and got in some good hits. It’s a little nerve racking to just put on a pair of gloves and go at someone. I know we practice this stuff daily, but it’s a different story when someone is trying to knock you out. However, I really liked it. It’s the best practice you can do for that sort of thing. I think I’ll be a bit more confident the next time we do this.”
Or, perhaps, a tiny love seat for midgets who like to sit in the back of the theater.
We saw The Departed this afternoon and it was gripping. For two-and-a-half hours. Sombody(s) gets an Oscar for this movie.
On the way to Bridgett and Andy’s wedding, we drove past a strip joint in downtown Kansas City. The sign on the front of the building promised “Totally Nude” but didn’t say what or who. This prompted Barb and me to speculate on what constitutes “partially nude.” Pasties and G-string? Shoes only? Can I leave my hat on? I hope to someday return to downtown KC to take this shot at night. I think it will make a better masthead.
