There is a gentle rain this morning at the beach on Sanibel. I ventured out onto our poarch the and the rain drops.

Matt Howard found this spot in the Buffalo River area. Looks like a painting. How nice that there are spots like this and people like Matt to find and share them.
The importance of design at Apple
“…a friend of mine was at meetings at Apple and Microsoft on the same day and this was in the last year, so this was recently. He went into the Apple meeting (he’s a vendor for Apple) and when he went into the meeting at Apple as soon as the designers walked in the room, everyone stopped talking because the designers are the most respected people in the organization. Everyone knows the designers speak for Steve because they have direct reporting to him. It is only at Apple where design reports directly to the CEO.
Later in the day he was at Microsoft. When he went into the Microsoft meeting, everybody was talking and then the meeting starts and no designers ever walk into the room. All the technical people are sitting there trying to add their ideas of what ought to be in the design. That’s a recipe for disaster.”
zero history
zero history is the final novel in William Gibson’s trilogy that started with Pattern Recognition. Hollis Henry is back from book two, Spook Country. I wouldn’t presume to review the work of Mr. Gibson. Here are a few of his words that got some highlighter:
“It was like being on the bottom of a Coney Island grab-it game, one in which the eclectically ungrabbed had been accumulating for decades. He looked up, imagining a giant three-pronged claw, agent of stark removal.” – pg 9
“His attempted smile felt like something froced from a flexible squeeze-toy.” – pg 10
“An overly wealthy, dangerously curious fiddler with the world’s hidden architectures.” – pg 18
“We do brand vision transmission, trend forecasting, vendor management, youth market recon, strategic planning in general.” – pg 21
“Addictions (start) out like magical pets, pocket monsters.” – pg 53

Murals by Rebecca
The brief (4 min) video above is with a co-worker who paints wall murals. She thought a video might help show-and-tell her art. I mention this here because it was just so easy to do with iMovie and the Comic Book theme added a little pizzazz. I need to check to see if there are more themes out there. I’m surprised that Apple only provide half a dozen.
Lesson learned from this mini-project: Edit out my questions wherever possible.
