On the way to Bridgett and Andy’s wedding, we drove past a strip joint in downtown Kansas City. The sign on the front of the building promised “Totally Nude” but didn’t say what or who. This prompted Barb and me to speculate on what constitutes “partially nude.” Pasties and G-string? Shoes only? Can I leave my hat on? I hope to someday return to downtown KC to take this shot at night. I think it will make a better masthead.

Delta Fair
Charles Jolliff describes this year’s Delta Fair as the “cleanest” he can remember. [Flickr set]
Delta Fair Parade
Charles Jolliff shares his flickr set of the 2006 Delta Fair Parade. Brings back lots of memories. My first radio interview (1972) was with Bill Walsh and Jack McDaniel, the Kennett businessmen who have been organizing the parade for about 50 years. My end of the interview was so bad, I spliced (magnetic tape, grease pencil, splicing block) in new questions. Took hours.
For years, Jeff Wheeler, Tom Colvin and I broadcast the parade live (You had to be there).
Back in the fifties, my father rode in the the parade in a wheelbarrow, as part of a radio station promotion. God bless America!

Mac desktop image
I am incapable of keeping a clean, orderly desktop on any of my Windows machines. Folders and files and shortcuts scattered from top to bottom. It is in no way the fault of the OS. It’s my sloppiness. I have discovered, however, that I can keep the MacBook desktop clean. Maybe it’s the dock or the way Finder works or, perhaps, it’s just the beautiful desktop images that ship with OSX. It would be a shame to cover them. I don’t know. But here’s the desktop as of 5 minutes ago.

It’s a guy thing
I came across this really amazing photo of urinals in a men’s room and remembered posting on this topic about a year ago. When I went searching for the earlier post I discovered my link now takes me to a page full of unusual urinals.
Perhaps one’s fascination with urnials increases with age and we spend more and more time gazing at bland men’s room walls.
Turtles

Barb discovered these two next to our house and insists they are doing the wild thing. That seems unlikely to me, but I can think of no better explanation.
The Miltenbergers (circa 1965)

Barb, Jan, Lew, Chris and Beth. The Miltenbergers. Fashion ran a close second to ultraviolet protection on Miltenberger family vacations.
Reduce stress, promote healing

If you only know Henry Domke from smays.com, he’s just my podcasting doctor buddy with whom I goof around each week. His passion for healing is matched by his passion for digital photography and he specializes in images from nature. I’ve linked to his work before and some of his pieces grace the walls of our home. A lot of his work winds up in hospitals, clinics and doctor’s offices where –like Henry– they calm and heal. From the comments section of Henry’s website (scroll down a bit):
“One of our patients told me how much inspiration she received from one of your framed pictures. She told me that while she waited for her name to be called to go back for chemotherapy, she would gaze at the picture. She said the way the sun shone from behind the tree made her think that the Lord was going to walk out from behind the tree.”
Tell me, how gratifying is that for a photographer? Henry recently added some amazing new images that make you want to spritz on the Deep Woods Off and grab your Nikon.
My first Mac

The deed is done. Henry drove us to the Apple store in his space car and we were in and out in 30 minutes with a brand new MacBook Pro. My first time off the PC reservation. It’s still in the box, seal unbroken. I don’t plan to post much about my Adventures in Mac Land. PC users don’t want to hear it… and Mac users have heard it all. How about this? I’ll tell you if I return it.
