Sheryl Crow's momma is an artist

Our Man in Kennett, Charles Jolliff, shares pix from this year's Delta Fair, including this landscape entry in the art competition. I know zip about painting but this looks pretty damned good to me. Like to see what got the blue ribbon.
Bernicecrowpainting

The artist is Bernice Crow (Sheryl's momma). Talent seems to run deep and wide in that family.

PS: I believe this is my favorite photo from Charles' set.

Sheryl Crow's pants

Picture_1

You too can look as good as Shery Crow. All you have to do is stuff your big bottom in a pair of her new Bootheel Tradiing Co. jeans, which went on sale nationwide August 15 (at Dillard's among other retailers).

Ms. Crow celebrates the official retail launch with the first of several in-store appearances. She will be stopping by Las Vegas's Fashion Show Mall on Aug. 26 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. [Thanks to official SC stalker, Lewis]

What brings people to smays.com?

Sitemetermap

A week ago I added SiteMeter to get a better handle on the trickle of traffic we get here at smays.com. One of the many features is a map showing location of recent visitors. I was curious about my visitor from Japan so I clicked on the dot and it pulled up a variety of information, including what he/she found (Google search) that brought them to my door. Irashaimasu.

"...and the rockets' red glare..."

Crowanthem

Ann and Jim point us to this video of Sheryl Crow singing the national anthem (only the clueless don't offer embed code) at the All-Star Game earlier this week.

Nobody sings the song especially well but SC gave a nice rendition. According to the article, she didn't just show up, sing, and split. She watched batting practice and hung with the crowd.

I don't watch sports so I don't often see the national anthem sung... but can't recall seeing someone sing it while playing the guitar.

Sikeston insurance salesman belts out opera on AGT

It's always fun to showcase talent from "down home." Neal E. Boyd is from Sikeston which is just up the road (from Kennett, MO) in Sikeston, where he's an insurance salesman.

He's also a competitor on American's Got Talent, the show I've (never watched) but always thought of as the poor man's American Idol. Neal sings opera.

And from our Small World File, Neal attended choir camp at Arkansas State University under the direction of my old friend Viretta and he sang at the Christmas Eve service of the Presbyterian Church in Kennett a couple of years back. A gig made famous by frequent appearances by Sheryl Crow. [Thanks, Nancy]

Bill and Sheryl

Billsheryl200

Friend and photog Bill Greenblatt is kind enough to share a few of the photos he took of Sheryl Crow this week at an event in Kennett, MO (her hometown and mine). Bill and Sheryl are pals which helps him get nice a close for the great shots he always provides.

SC fan and smays.com pen pall, Ann, points out how happy and relaxed Ms. Crow appears in these latest photos. Hey, she's just a former twirler from KHS.

Sheryl Crow back in Kennett for ribbon cutting

Charles and Sheryl Crow

The old Ely & Walker shirt factory, just off the downtown square in Kennett, Missouri, has been converted to nice new apartments and today was the ribbon cutting. On hand for the dedication was Kennett's favorite daughter, Sheryl Crow. And smays.com's Kennett Bureau Chief, Charles Jolliff was there as well and shares his photos.

"I missed the money shot, going to the top of the roof and looking down while the ribbon cutting was going on... but, I can only be in one place at one time for the moment."
[Note to self: send Charles latest draft of Bilocation and You. And You.]

Charles says he didn't spot anyone that looked like Ms. Crow's new Friend, so he moved in for this quick shot. Well done, CJ.

New beau for Sheryl Crow?

The National Ledger --quoting Life & Style-- reports Sheryl Crow is dating John Cassimus, a restaurateur from Birmingham, Ala.

Cassimus

"John, who’s also a pilot, has been flying his plane to Nashville to see her. They’ve kept it pretty low-key — cooking together, riding horses, going up in his plane.” And if they decide to dine out, they’ll never have to worry about a reservation.

“John runs a restaurant chain in the South called Zoë’s Kitchen,” the insider says. “He’s also a partner in a Japanese place called Jinsei in Homewood, near Birmingham.” Sheryl is set to perform in nearby Pelham on May 23 — and, according to the insider, be with her new beau."

Here's some background on John. Is it just me, or does he look a little like Lance?

The Trump Tower of Kennett, MO

Our Man in Kennett, Charles Jolliff forward this digital clip for the Kennett, MO newspaper:

"Jan McElwrath, executive director of the Kennett Chamber of Commerce, announced there will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony held at 2 p.m., Monday, May 19, 2008, at the new Ely Walker Apartments. "Although I'm sad to say that Gov. Matt Blunt will be unable to attend, I'm very pleased to say that Ms. Sheryl Crow will make an appearance," McElwrath said. "So we are expecting a wonderful turnout for this event."

So, Sheryl Crow is second-choice after the governor? Uh huh.

Before being converted to posh loft apartments, the old Ely Walker building was a shirt factory. I remember walking by on a hot summer day and peering in to watch row upon row of women making shirts. No air conditioning back then and the work looked damned hot. But these were probably pretty good jobs that --like so many others-- have moved off-shore. I'm sure my old hometown would like to have them back.

Let's hope Charles is feeling fit enough to get some pix of SC holding those big scissors.

Shery Crow pulls Eric Clapton surprise

My pal Ann covers the Shery Crow beat for smays.com and points us to the following [includes video report]:

"Sheryl Crow had already endeared herself to concertgoers at Sunfest (West Palm Beach) on Wednesday night, playing songs from her new album Detours as well as hits including Can't Cry Anymore and A Change Would Do You Good. But when she brought out Eric Clapton -- "a longtime friend of mine who I admire so deeply," she said -- she gave SunFest's opening night audience a moment it won't soon forget."

Sheryl Crow rocks Redneck Riviera

Our man in Pensecolda, Matt Zeni, files this review of Sheryl Crows performance at the civic center last Saturday night:

Sherylpensecola"She talked about traveling to Panama City with her family many years ago and going to Mrs. Reed’s trailer park where they rented a space for a week or two with their “cool” Airstream trailer. She and the band traveled to Panama City Saturday and saw a lot of changes with many, many condos but Mrs. Reed and her trailer park are still there. She also mentioned that she ‘hangs out’ down the road in Destin.

She looks terrific for being 46 years young and all she had been through the past three years and she touched on the events in her life the past few years. She was incredible [photos]. First time I saw her in concert. I had the chance to talk with her about 5-10 minutes when she was (in Columbia, MO) about ten years ago. She was in town for a concert and for MU homecoming and she was at the station(s) with her parents.

She was amazing. I even called a friend back in Columbia while in the civic center before the show. She asked me to call her back when Sheryl played her favorite song, My Favorite Mistake. I did and Tracey enjoyed the 6-7 minutes thanks to T-Mobile. Nothing like a live concert on your cellphone! I saw quite a few cellphone and I-phones sending video and audio to all parts of the world."

Thanks for the report, Matt. Makes a boy wonder how concert promoters will stop thousands of fans from streaming live video from concerts like this. Or if they should try.

Sheryl Crow making "Drunk with the Thought of You"

Picture_1 Pal Ann points us to this short video of Sheryl Crow working on a new song. Looks like to was shot in her home and her home studio.

The thing I like most about this video is how relaxed Ms. Crow appears. Hair pulled back, no make-up (as far as I can tell), kid toys scattered around. She really doesn't appear to be "on."

LA Times reviews Sheryl Crow's 'Detours'

"Sheryl Crow has proven her mettle so many times that her unique position is now taken for granted. She may be the most successful woman rocker ever, with the most consistently auspicious career. But she's still often dismissed as merely competent."

"Crow's progressive lyrics hit like rubber-band pings fired by some joker in the back row at school. No one is likely to sing her verses at a march on Washington. But by addressing serious issues in the language of pop, they remind us that political speech and casual breeze-shooting can and do often intersect."

Sheryl Crow interview on NPR's Fresh Air

ryl I haven't listened to it yet, but Sunny points us to an in-depth interview --and live performance-- with Sheryl Crow on NPR's Fresh Air. Stayed up watch her perform a pretty good version of Doctor My Eyes on Letterman. The woman looks fine. Downloading her new album, Detours.

Music videos, guerrilla style

Sheryl Crow on using YouTube to promote her new CD:

"As far as I know, MTV and VH1 don't play music videos any more; it's all reality TV and game shows, so I don't know if they'll really pick up a video. To me, it's an interesting time because you used to make a video for a million dollars with a great director. Now, you spend $10,000, if that, with no hair and make-up, and do it completely guerrilla style. For example, we did a song called "God Bless This Mess" about the war and we shot it in front of the White House and nobody stopped us. It's really really exciting to just go out and shoot, like how Bob Dylan shot "Don't Look Back" -- it's just a guy with a camera and you're performing the song."

Avenging Bobby Riggs

Sheryl, Billie Jean and WendellI'm not sure I've got all of the details of this story exactly right but someone will let me know if I don't.

Through her charity work, Sheryl Crow arranged for her daddy, Wendell, to play tennis with Billie Jean King. I believe this took place the day after the U. S. Open at Arthur Ashe Stadium ("when we finally were successful in getting that Roger Federer guy off the court.").

While chatting with Wendell last weekend on our visit to Kennett, I said I'd heard about the event and hoped there were photos. Thanks to Wendell's daughter Kathy, there are. And Wendell gave me permission to share them here.

A nice one of Sheryl, Ms. King and her pop; a very nice family shot; and --my favorite-- Wendell preparing to serve a ball to the back of Billie Jean King's head (not really).

And she can sing

Sheryl Crow I always get a few "you filthy perv" emails when I post one of these photos of Kennett's Favorite Daughter, Sheryl Crow. I promise, I'm motivated by nothing more than small-town-pride. And appreciation for the work it must take to keep a 45-year-old body looking this fine. (I'm getting close to perv, aren't I?)

What can I say? Smart, talented women in control of their lives is a turn-on for me. Okay, it doesn't hurt if they're hot.

The cover is from the October issue of Shape. Previous posts on SC.

The Usual Suspects (with Sheryl Crow)

Sheryl & WendellOn her way back from Destin last weekend, Barb stopped off in Memphis to hook up with some Kennett pals and catch The Usual Suspects at B. B. King's on historic  Beale Street.

The Usual Suspects is a pick-up band made up of some good old Kennett boys: Wendell Crow (Sheryl's daddy), Jim Baker, Gary Wilcoxson, Darryl Wilcoxson, Doug Carter and Ken Williams.

Barb shot a little video on her Casio (she didn't have a real good angle). And friend-of-the-band Kay Schanuel took some really fine still shots. Thanks to Kay for letting us share these with you here (and to Ann for putting us in touch).

Everyone who has seen these photos has commented on how happy Sheryl Crow looks. A new mom, jammin' with her daddy. Priceless.

Rove to Sheryl Crow: "Don't touch me."

Sheryl Crow goes one-on-one (well, two-on-one) with Carl Rove. It happened last night at the White House Correspondents Dinner:

Rover, Crow and David"In his attempt to dismiss us, Mr. Rove turned to head toward his table, but as soon as he did so, Sheryl reached out to touch his arm. Karl swung around and spat, "Don't touch me." How hardened and removed from reality must a person be to refuse to be touched by Sheryl Crow? Unphased, Sheryl abruptly responded, "You can't speak to us like that, you work for us." Karl then quipped, "I don't work for you, I work for the American people." To which Sheryl promptly reminded him, "We are the American people."

Sheryl Crow and environmental activist Laurie David are wrapping up an 11-date "Stop Global Warming College Tour" aimed at inspiring students to become part of the movement.

Like Steve McQueen, All I need's a fast machine

Sheryl's ShirtI posted a short video clip last month of some of Sheryl Crow's clothing and costumes which she donates to raise money for a children's home in Kennett, Missouri.

What I did'nt mention (for fear of ruining the surprise) was the item I discovered hanging on a rack in a back room: a slinky top (T-shirt?) Ms. Crow wore in the Steve McQueen video. I thought that would be a cool gift for my pen-pal and Sheryl Crow uberfan, Ann.

I liberated the shirt with a donation and sent it off to Ann, who lives in Belgium. After a month held hostage in Belgian customs (the shirt, not Ann), Ann has the shirt and promises a photo.

Sheryl Crow tops unlucky at love list

Rocker SHERYL CROW has topped a new Unlucky in Love list following a string of failed romances. The SOAK UP THE SUN singer, who has had flings with ERIC CLAPTON, KID ROCK and OWEN WILSON, broke off her engagement to cycling champion LANCE ARMSTRONG last year (06).

But she hasn't given up on finding true love, confessing, "I don't want to spend the rest of my life alone. That's the only true fear I have." Her optimism hasn't kept her off the top of In Touch Weekly magazine's new love losers list, in which she narrowly beat best pal JENNIFER ANISTON. The top 10 is:

1. SHERYL CROW
2. JENNIFER ANISTON
3. PAULA ABDUL
4. HILARY DUFF
5. TYRA BANKS
6. LAUREN CONRAD (US reality TV star)
7. MARIAH CAREY
8. CARRIE UNDERWOOD (AMERICAN IDOL winner)
9. KIRSTIE ALLEY
10. CAMERON DIAZ

Well, that kinda sucks. I might argue that splitting with Lance could go in the "Lucky" column. But I no doubt our girl will find true romance and lasting happiness.

Honky Tonk Woman (A look back)

In January, 2003, Sheryl Crow appeared on stage with the Rolling Stones in Madison Square Garden. I asked then (and now)... "What's bigger than this? What's 'up' from there?"

While uploading the "attic" video to YouTube, I noticed someone had uploaded video of SC's duet with Jagger. Nobody every looked better in leather pants (Crow, not Jagger)

Sheryl Crow Yard Sale

BootsWhat's a pop star do with clothing and costumes she can no longer wear? Goodwill? Salvation Army? Sheryl Crow sends hers home to Kennett where they wind up in a tiny room on the second floor of what was once the Cotton Exchange Bank. It's now "The Bank," an antique shop run by Mary Jo Byrd. She sells Ms. Crow's duds and the proceeds go to the Delta Children's Home.

I did make a purchase and will post on that later. Here's a short video of what felt like Sheryl Crow's attic.

Sheryl Crow Birthday Drive raises $14K+

Our Sheryl Crow Correspondent, Ann, reports the annual Sheryl Crow Birthday Drive raised more than $14,000 to benefit the Delta Childrens Home in Kennnett (SC's hometown). Ms. Crow posted the following thank-you on her website forum:

"I can't tell you how much your generosity has once again touched me and my community. The birthday gift of contributions made in the name of the Delta Children's Home is the most precious gift I could receive and I am deeply grateful.

I am working on a new record as we speak and am really enjoying the process. I hope you will enjoy the outcome. Much, much love and gratitude."

Our thanks to Ann for letting us know this was taking place.

Sheryl Crow Birthday Drive

Every year for the past six years, Sheryl Crow fans gotten together (on her website forums) to give Sheryl a special gift for her birthday on February 11. The idea to do this originated with a fan and it involves raising money for the Delta Children's Home.

The Delta Children's Home provides an emergency shelter for children that are removed from their own home by the courts or who need shelter for other reasons (family problems, etc.). It's the only facility of its type in the area. The Delta homes do not receive money from the Federal or State government and rely on the community for support.

Sheryl Crow and Grand PrizeI'm a little fuzzy on just how this works but I think those who contribute to the fund drive are eligible to win a prize. This year it's an autographed guitar. If I'm wrong about the mechanics, we'll rely on Sheryl Crow fan Ann to clear it up.

Thanks to Ann for alerting us to this worthy effort. The drive ends a midnight Pacific on Monday, February 12.

Sheryl's gonna tell us how it's gonna be

Ann Morren (our only Belgian reader) reminds us to watch for Sheryl Crow's Revlon ad in the Super Bowl (sometime in the 3rd quarter)... and then head over to iTunes and purchase Ms. Crow's cover of Buddy Holly's "Not Fade Away." Proceeds going to aid breast cancer research.

Update: Purchased/listened to the song. Okay. Liked Rolling Stones & Buddy Holly versions better. Would love to know what Revlon is paying to have SC as spokesperson.

While pinging back and forth with Ann Morren, I learned she is a photographer and persuaded her to let me share a few here. I've noticed that a disproportionate number of smays.com readers (Henry, Bass) take great photographs.

Kennett expats in environmental face-off

Rock star Sheryl Crow and movie producer Laurie David, who helped work on Al Gore's Oscar nominated documentary "An Inconvenient Truth," are teaming up for a two-week bus tour across North Texas and the Gulf states. The tour is designed to fight global warming and save the environment.

The tour hopes to stop TXU's controversial plan to build 11 coal-fired power plants across the state of Texas. Governor Rick Perry's plan to fast-track the coal plants has been attacked by environmentalists and a coalition of cities.

C. John Wilder, 48, is chairman of the board and CEO of TXU Corp., one of the nation's largest electric energy companies.

Brother-in-law Lew connects the Kennett dots in this story. Not only are Ms. Crow and Mr. Wilder from Kennett, they lived in the same house (on Emerson Street), although not at the same time.

Sounds like the beginning of a pretty good screenplay, doesn't it?

Sheryl Crow reads (and plugs) the Wall Street Journal

"Adventures in Capitalism" was the tag line for The Wall Street Journal's previous ad campaign, in 1997, to promote the brand. The paper was recently made over -- taking three inches from the width and adding an emphasis on forward-looking journalism -- so it's time to freshen up with a new campaign. [MSNBC] "Every journey needs a Journal," says the new tag line, positioning the paper to speak less to readers' inner Striver than their inner Seeker.

The ad blitz -- which begins next week in major publications and Web sites -- are essentially celebrity endorsements, highlighting the Journal's role in the inspiring "life journeys" of a diverse mix of people including singer Sheryl Crow, "Freakonomics" coauthor and University of Chicago professor Steven Levitt and Jack Burton, founder of Burton Snowboards.

The Journal wanted people who weren't megafamous but who "had an interesting life journey, read The Wall Street Journal and were successful." Ping me if you spot one of these ads.

Blogs = Good Google JuJu

Search Results

A search for "sheryl crow golden globes" (I added the quotation marks) produced 214,000 results. Crow received a Best Original Song nomination for her performance of Try Not to Remember from the film "Home of the Brave." She didn't win. And she did at least one other song that wasn't nominated. But that's not the point of this post.

Sheryl Crow has a bunch of fan sites. The Golden Globe Awards are pretty topical. And "sheryl crow golden globes" seems like a not uncommon search.

That a blog would show up at the top of the search results still amazes me. We outranked TMZ for christsake. If you want to improve the Google rank of your company or organization website... put a blog front and center.

Golden Globe nomination for Sheryl Crow

Sheryl Crow received (a couple of weeks ago) a Golden Globe nomination (Best Original Song) for her performance of Try Not to Remember from the film "Home of the Brave."

The movie tells the story of returning Iraqi war veterans who have to adjust to life again. I had not heard the song but just watched/listened to a "behind the lyrics" video at TMZ.com. A pretty --and heavy-- song.

Christmas in Kennett

Barb and her brothers and sisters grew up attending the First Presbyterian Church in Kennett. When she and I started dating (1972) I attended a few services with her. The Big Event is the Christmas Eve service. Dr. Everett Mobley (Your Pet's Best Friend) blogs this update:

Seated in the choir, we noticed what appeared to be an outlaw biker in the back of the balcony. It proved to be Trent Tomlinson, seated in an unobtrusive spot, but wearing black leather and a do-rag on his head. My guess is that this is an image thing, just like never seeing Roy Rogers without a cowboy hat, or the Lone Ranger without his mask and silver bullets.

Since Sheryl Crow and Lance Armstrong split, Sheryl is back in Kennett for Christmas. She helped anchor the soprano section with her sister and her mother. Despite being a glamorous rock star, she pulled out the reading glasses to see the music. One of the middle-aged (my age) ladies in the choir commented that it showed Sheryl was just like the rest of us. What she was really thinking (as she looked out over her own bifocals) was, "I look like a rock-star." Maybe she does. I look more like Barney Fife, myself.

It remains one of Kennett's endearing charms that such well-known musicians can sing in the church choir (or sit in the balcony) and not be bothered.

John Mayer on Sheryl Crow

John Mayer and Sheryl CrowSheryl Crow and John Mayer recently toured together and during the next-to-last date, John Mayer come onstage during SC's set, dressed as a bear. The following night, Ms. Crow interrupted his set, wearing a bikini and waving around a baton (I'm pretty sure she was a twirler in high school). Based on this post from Mr. Mayer's blog (10/12/06), they had a good time:

"Sheryl - I hope you realize, even if for a fleeting moment just once a day, that everything you've ever hoped you would be, you are. I've never heard you sing a sour note, your record collection could freeze a Lower East Side hipster dead in his tracks and you have one of the hardest to find traits in a musician; you believe that nice isn't the opposite of bad-ass. Add to that the great people you surround yourself with, and it's no wonder I walk away from every conversation with you feeling like I expend twice the energy but say half as much as you do."

Ms. Crow looks pretty good (for any age). There's no permalink to the specific post on the Mayer blog.

Kennett's Tomlinson a Stern fav

J-Dub (a foam-at-the-mouth Howard Stern fan) reports that Kennett singer/songwriter Trent Tomlinson gets some mega-exposure on on Stern's show:

Howard Stern plays one of his tunes frequently. Mrs. Howard Stern, a little drunk vixen, chose Drunker than Me as the tune to sing along to for Howard. They love it so much, that they play it all the time on the show. Good exposure for Trent.

I love the thought of Trent and Sheryl Crow co-writing and performing a song. I gotta believe somebody is already working on that.

Sheryl Crow: Clear and optimistic

Sheryl Crow has posted an open letter to her fans on her website. It's an update on her health as she begins a series (33) of radiation treatments.

I am doing really well. Strangely, I feel clear and optimistic...perhaps more than ever. I am on day 4 of my 33 radiation treatments and am feeling really good. As you know, my breast cancer was detected very early and I am completely blessed that it was removed and all I have to undergo in the way of treatment is radiation, strictly for preventative measures. I am told I will suffer fatigue starting about week 3 and some redness and some skin irritation in the final weeks. My great radiologist did tell me that my left breast would be firm and perky when I've completed the treatments and I asked if she could go ahead and radiate the other while she was at it. She said no.

She's looking forward to a tour this summer which she describes as "... a celebration every night of how lucky I feel with this life I have been given."

Does this lady have a good attitude, or what? [Thanks, Ann]

Sheryl Crow fans looking for ways to show support

Sheryl Crow fan Ann (from Belgium) points to the Fan Forum on the official Sheryl Crow website. Sounds like well-wishers are organizing and participating in walk-a-thons to raise money for cancer research and treatment.

Positive thoughts for Sheryl Crow

Sheryl Crow had surgery for breast cancer a few days ago. According to her website, she underwent successful surgery on Wednesday and described the procedure as "minimally invasive." Doctors said her prognosis was excellent and she would have radiation treatments as a precaution.

"I am joining the more than 200,000 women who will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year," Crow said. "We are a testament to the importance of early detection and new treatments ... I am inspired by the brave women who have faced this battle before me and grateful for the support of family and friends."

Several readers emailed to ask why I hadn't posted on this. I just hadn't seen the story. Now that I have, my stomach hurts but I expect a happy ending.

Got milk?

Sheryl CrowThanks to Chuck for alerting us to the Sheryl Crow Got Milk? campaign. I've requested a hi rez version of this poster but I think I might be closer to stalker than media. We'll see. Voila! [Larger version] And now that I can read the copy on the poster... Bravo to the guy that came up with "Rock Hard."

Sounds like SC and LA have lifted the black-out on the breakup: Lance used his satellite radio program to talk about the breakup, saying lots of nice things about his former love. And Sheryl was talking with Ellen DeGeneres. The 44-year-old rocker thanked fans for their support and noted that -- despite the heartache -- she is free and single again. "‘All my friends say I have to get right back on the bike," Crow quipped, "‘and I keep saying, 'Maybe not a bike.'"

Sheryl Crow, Lance Armstrong split

We've been hearing rumblings of this for a week, hoping it wasn't true. Sheryl Crow and Lance Armstrong have broken up. None of the stories I found provided any details. Sorry to hear it. [Thanks, Charles]

Onion writers not fans of Sheryl Crow

From the Onion: "Seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong found his endurance stretched "almost to the breaking point" last Friday by a three-hour, 30-song concert presented by his fiancée, pop-folk singer Sheryl Crow."

I'm posting this because a) I'm a fan and subscriber of the Onion and b) my friend/co-worker Bob took the time to forward. But it just isn't up to the Onion's high standards. Shit, I could have written that. Somebody must have been on deadline.

Sheryl Crow on cover of Shape Magazine

Shape CoverSheryl Crow will be 44 next month but it will be a smoking hot 44, based on the cover of Shape. Ms. Crow says she runs or bikes (outdoors) for at least an hour "every single day." Doesn't listen to music while running, but meditates and "gets her thoughts in order." If not running, she's biking with Lance. She cuts out early since LA typically does six or seven hours a day. When the two cook at home, they make a Mexican burrito for breakfast with cheese, salsa and Jimmy Dean sausage. She eats lots of vegetables and recently gave up caffeine. [Photo]

Get a shot of the water tower

Kennett Water TowerThe CBS Early Show producers chose Sheryl Crow to lead off a week-long series on mothers of celebrities (That's My Mom) and I have to say Harry Smith and the crew did a very nice job with the 5 min package (VIDEO: 13.5 meg wmv). Lot of screen time for Bernice who was charming as always. The shots I found most interesting were of Sheryl and her mom in her NY apartment. Sheryl looked like someone you'd see coming out of 7-11. Zero glam and it looked great on her.

11/27/2005

Some bisquits and gravy for Mr. Smith, please

If I read the story (DDD) correctly, CBS Early Show guy Harry Smith schlepped down to Kennett last month, for a piece on Shery Crow, scheduled to air tomorrow morning (7 a.m. CST). When NY TV personalities come to Kennett, do they eat our food or bring MRE's? [Thanks to Alvin9988]

Kennett music news

Kennett correspondent Viretta got an early listen to the new CD by Trent Tomlinson (son of Bragg City/Kennett basketball star Don Tomlinson) and tags it "incredible." Trent's been in Nashville for about 12 years and recently signed with Lyric Street Records, a division of Disney headed up by another good old Kennett boy, Doug Howard. Viretta reports the CD will be coming out soon and describes Trent's lyrcis as "fantastic." And she would know.

In other music news, we received an email from a nice lady at VH1 asking for permission to use some of the photos of Sheryl Crow at the dedication of the Aquatic Center for a news package they're putting together. I confessed that all of the good pix were shot by professional photog Bill Greenblatt.

We love you, Diane!

Long-time friend and star of The Basement Diaries, Jane Marshall, was in NYC last week for Sheryl Crow's performance in Bryant Park:

"Stayed up all nite making signs with my friends and left the hotel about 5:45 to make the walk to the park. Even though I don't know (Sheryl) personally, we were able to get her attention and at the end of her set she gave "a shout out to Kennett, MO" that was enough for us. The concert was good but, what really blew us away is how beautiful Diane Sawyer is. I mean, TV does her no justice at all. We were in awe, she is just stunning."

You can forget big TV stars and famous recording artists... Jane Marshall in the Big Apple is the show I want to see.

Meringue

Sheryl Crow engagement rinkSheryl Crow is on a short --but intense-- promotional tour for her new CD and she showed off her engagement ring this morning on ABC's Good Morning America. Barb was pleased that Sheryl was thrilled --as any good Kennett girl should be-- with her big rock. Short video clip and larger still.

Lance and Sheryl on SNL?

Lance Armstrong and Sheryl Crow are scheduled to appear on Saturday Night Live on October 29th. Apparantly Lance will host and Sheryl will sing. I haven't been able to find this online but Charles attributes the story to Diane Holloway, a columnist for the Austin American-Statesman. Supposedly confirmed by NBC publicist. If anyone spots this online, send me a link. Update: Ah, here it is. Thanks, Ann.

Sheryl and Lance pedal into the sunset

Okay, it's official. Lance and Sheryl are engaged, according to statement by Lance on Monday (9/5). Thanks to our Kennett sources, we had it at 9:44 p.m. on Friday (9/2).

Correction courtesy of Everett: "I expect this sort of thing from the Democrat (who
made same error), but not from my hero. Peddling has to do with selling stuff out of your backpack or car. Pedaling is what bicyclists do."
