Ana Marie Cox interviewed Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty. I was wondering why she posted the audio-only interview to YouTube when slides started started flashing up. Sort of like sub-titles of what she was thinking as she asked and/or he answered.
It would have been tempting to throw up some stills but not doing so was more effective. I can’t recall seeing something like this before. I cross-posted from politix because I found the approach intriguing.

I think it is an interesting way to present the interview, but it treads too far into the area of editorializing, especially when she uses phrases like “indeed.” Unless that was Cox’s intent, she is better off just asking the questions and letting the answers speak for themselves. She will not get too many people to agree to interviews if they understand that they may be ridiculed, ala Colbert Report, Da Ali G, etc.
That said, it’s a fun watch/listen/read. I like its use better as a way to describe the interview subject’s reaction … Like when she described how he put his fingers together. On the other hand, if you’re going to the trouble of making a youtube video, why not use video? Decent video recorders are cheap these days.
