Sydney Pollack is gone but he left us lots of great movies, including some of my favorites (Jeremiah Johnson, Three Days of the Condor). We remember him here with this final scene from TDOTC:

There are so many things that were movies then that have suddenly become reality. Movies are not supposed to be real life, and real life is not supposed to be cinema.
We are on the edge,and it’s up to us all if we go over that edge or not…I knew that when this show was in the theaters…it still sends chills down my spine. I’m glad I’m the age I am, what my grandson will see is beyond me…and I probably do not want to know…Pollack was the director for his time.
He’ll be missed.
