NPR, which has been among the top-rated podcasts on iTunes since the beginning, has launched a separate brand for original, podcast-only content, called alt.NPR. The new brand will highlight original shows developed specificaly for podcasting.
If your only consideration was producing an interesting radio show that people might want to listen to, what would you come up with? The NPR folks have added 14 new podcasts, including: “On Gambling with Mike Pesca,” a weekly examination of gaming culture, trends and psychology from the NPR News reporter; Groove Salad’s “Taste of the Week,” a selection of music from San Francisco’s eclectic online music service SomaFM, and “Youthcast,” public radio productions from up-and-coming young producers from PRX/Public Radio Exchange.
All in all, it has launched 16 new podcasts, for a total of 33 podcasts shows now. Member stations contirbute another 174 podcasts [via PaidContent.org]
